Deputies of the Party of Democratic Action of Sandzak (SDA) have submitted "a draft resolution on genocide in Srebrenica" to the Serbian parliament.

Group of MPs submit resolution on Srebrenica to parliament

The draft resolution strongly condemns the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as any denial of genocide, and wants July 11 declared a day of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica.

The resolution also expresses sympathy for all the victims of the wars in the former Yugoslavia.

Signatories of the proposal think it necessary to adopt it before the 20th anniversary of the crime in Srebrenica.

"It is time that after 20 years we look the truth in the eye," Ugljanin told reporters late on Thrusday, stating that he will try to persuade MPs "to face the consequences of misdeed that someone did on our behalf."

According to him, the resolution is comprehensive, based on the decisions of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court and all the facts about the event.

Ugljanin said that the aim of the resolution was "to remove this chief obstacle in inter-ethnic cooperation and reconciliation and a common European path."

Aida Corovic supported the resolution and added it was her personal position, of which she informed the head of the DS group in parliament.

Olena Papuga from the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina said its MPs supported the draft "without question and thinking" and noted the party was the only one to in the past attend commemorations in Srebrenica.

The proposal said that the resolution should be adopted because recognizing the genocide in Srebrenica would be a civilized step that Serbia needs to confirm the seriousness of the intent to build dialogue, cooperation, trust and lasting peace in the region.
