"The resolution of this issue depends not only on the efforts of authorities, but also on the ethical choices that each athlete and club makes, as the clubs organize match fixing in order to make up for their lack of funds," Udovicic said at the forum "Protecting the ethical principles and integrity of contemporary sport" organized by Tanjug News Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The Law on Sports contains penal provisions that are included in the Criminal Code and are very strict, added Udovicic.

"Lengthy legal battles are the main cause of inefficiency," said Udovicic, adding that the law will be changed in order to speed up legal proceedings concerning improper behavior in sports.
