Police, military security agency: Serbians are safe

The police director reiterated a joint statement from yesterday’s meeting of the Security Services Coordination Bureau that that there were no information about the possibility of the conflict in Macedonia spilling over into Serbia, stressing that the police and the military and all security structures were at the ready to prevent any such attempt.

Speaking on the same TV Pink talk show, Cvetkovic told all citizens of Serbia that they could be at peace, as the security, military, police and government services were taking all the necessary measures to control the situation. “The situation with respect to the security of our country has not been challenged,” he said.

According to official figures, the clashes with the terrorists that have been shaking the city of Kumanovo in northern Macedonia over the past few days resulted in the deaths of eight policemen while 37 of them sustaining injuries.

The Serbian Army has raised the level of combat readiness and are prepared to preserve Serbia's territorial sovereignty and integrity together with other security structures, Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic stated.

"Together with other security structures of the Republic of Serbia, we are ready to respond to all challenges that would violate the territorial sovereignty and integrity of the country and its citizens," the minister told Tanjug late on Sunday, while visiting the Cvore military base on the border with Macedonia.

The minister toured the most prominent point between Presevo and the border with Macedonia with directors of Serbia's Military Security Agency, the Security Information Agency, the army chief, the deputy commander of the Gendarmerie and the chief of Police in Vranje.

Gasic also visited the border police at the Presevo crossing between Serbia and Macedonia.
