Besides that, Nikolic added, Serbia is persistently and diligently building its European path.

"We are proud of our traditional friendships and want to continue to develop and deepen them. Wherever our friends are quarreling we are not taking sides, but are trying to contribute to reconciliation," Nikolic said.

Both presidents are in Moscow for Victory Day celebrations.

Castro said he was pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with Nikolic, "who comes from a country that cherishes sincere friendship toward Cuba and the Cuban people."

"We have been fighting for decades to preserve the state and ensure the survival of the nation. Reforms are implemented in a way that will ensure prosperity and a better life for the Cuban people," the Cuban leader remarked.

Nikolic will on May 18 start his official visit to Havana, where he will be received by Cuban officials to discuss promoting cooperation between the two countries.
