EU to help W. Balkans fight terrorism

This is the proposal of the European Commission (EC) in the significant strengthening of the fight against terrorism on European soil, and it was especially pointed out that the plan should be activated urgently, for cooperation between the EU and the western Balkan states in the prevention of smuggling firearms, being smuggled in vast quantities from this region into the Union.

The new measures of the EU should also encompass the currently inadequate intelligence cooperation and the exchange of information between the EU members themselves, which would be carried out in the "strictest confidentiality" via the EU police agency Europol, and within the European Anti-Terrorism Center.

According to the EC spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic, the EU members and the Commission at the same time "condemned the terrible and criminal attack" by an Islamic terrorist on the police station in Zvornik, and reiterated that this was "an attack against the institutions of Bosnia-Herzegovina which are working to protect and secure the interests of the peoples of Bosnia-Herzegovina."
