Incidents during local elections; SNS-led coalition wins

The SNS coalition included New Serbia, the Social-Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS), the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO), and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS). The local offices of the Radicals (SRS) and the Pensioner Party (PUPS) "supported the coalition."

Meanwhile, the Socialist Party-United Serbia (SPS-JS) and the Democratic Party (DS) won seven seats each.

The turnout was 70.4 percent. 11,970 citizens were eligible to vote in Mionica.

No new details emerged on Monday about Sunday's incidents in the village of Nanomir, where DS candidate for municipal president Milan Gavrilovic was assaulted, nor about the separate incident in Mionica where three SPS activists came under attack.

The police only increased their presence in Mionica on Sunday after the incidents, although the opposition claims that "it was clear the situation was tense" - above all because "SNS teams have been in Mionica for almost two months, conducting door-to-door campaigning along with the party's local activists."

Members of Mionica's opposition parties who came under attack said they were "certain" their assailants were not from the town.

The Progressives, meantime, rejected these accusations, instead pointing the finger at the DS as the party responsible for the incidents.

Early local elections were also held in the municipality of Lucani, where the SNS won 51.91 percent (23 seats in the local assembly), while New Serbia received 15.01 percent and will have seven councilors.

The Dveri Movement won 12.02 percent and six mandates, followed by the SPS-JS coalition with 11.2 percent and five mandates. The citizen group One Team won 9.86 and four seats in the Lucani municipal assembly.
