OSCE role "opportunity that must not be missed"

"The country that has felt in the worst possible way what isolation and exclusion from the international scene means will have an opportunity starting January 1 to transform that difficult experience into a clear benefit," Dacic wrote in an opinion piece for the weekly Nedeljnik.

Serbia must not interfere in the conflict between world powers caused by the crisis in Ukraine and cannot allow itself to judge any of the big players, he stated.

"This game is played by their rules," Dacic underscored.

Serbia should try to use its chairmanship to help the OSCE become a bridge and a connection between the opposing sides, to talks to everyone and convince them that dialogue is the only solution.

"The good thing for us in that is the fact that we will assume chairmanship at a point when we have no accounts to settle with any of the fighters in the ring, nor any kind of issue that would make any of them view us as an enemy, or even a threat," he said.

Serbia should use the reputation it has built, and which will increase during the OSCE chairmanship, "to again feel the self-respect and dignity it has lost over the years."

"A country that is respected by the world has no reason to lack self-esteem," Dacic concluded.
