FM visits Belarus, pledges better cooperation

The current trade and economic cooperation is "far below the possibilities," they said.

Stressing that the visit came as Serbia and Belarus mark two decades of diplomatic relations, Dacic and Myasnikovich emphasized the interest in a stronger presence of Belarus companies in Serbia, primarily through investments and participation in the privatization process, said the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After the meeting, Dacic said that the two countries are linked by a long friendship and stressed that Serbia wants better cooperation with Belarus.

"In the future we plan to improve economic relations and increase trade. In February our joint committee for economic cooperation will meet, and we expect that to result in the creation of partnerships between our companies, even in the setting up of joint companies for doing business in third markets," said Dacic.

He added that Serbia, during its upcoming presidency of the OSCE, will invest a lot of effort to make sure the organization has good cooperation with the Belarus authorities.

The Serbian minister expressed his gratitude for Minsk's "principled position on the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo."

Dacic also met with President of the Council of the Republic National Assembly Anatoly Rubinov and Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.

During the visit, Dacic laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk.
