Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić met with German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt in Belgrade on Monday.

Vučić said he was pleased about cooperation with Germany, pointing out that there were sectors with possibilities for its further improvement.Vučić used the occasion to thank Germany for helping Serbia deal with the consequences of the massive flooding that that hit Serbia in May, emphasizing that Germany was among the first to react and offer considerable financial aid.
The Serbian prime minister informed Schmidt about reform measures that Serbia had adopted since the beginning of the current government’s term, which created favorable conditions for foreign investment.
Schmitt said that Germany supported Serbia on its European path. The German federal minister referred in particular to the possibility of cooperation in the field of agriculture, particularly in forestry, offering assistance of German experts in that area.
The statement added that during the talks, "Schmidt above all explained the subjects of approaching the EU in the area of agriculture and the position of Serbia toward the Russian ban on import of EU agricultural products."
"In light of the announced visit of Russian President (Vladimir) Putin to Serbia this week, Serbia's foreign policy positioning has also been mentioned," it added.
Schmidt "supported Serbia's desire to join the EU and appraised that 2014 is a historic year for Serbia because of the start of accession talks."
The German minister at the same time "pointed out to the importance of continued normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo since it is clear that the speed of accession negotiations will to a large extent depend also on the progress in the process of the normalization of relations with Kosovo."
According to the statement, Schmidt and Vučić also "intensively discussed the conflict in Ukraine," when the German official "expressed his concern that the conflict has the potential to destabilize the whole region."
In his meeting with his Serbian counterpart Snežana Bogosavljević-Bođšković, Schmidt announced that his country would set aside half a million euros in assistance to the forestry sector in Serbia, "to help prevent future flooding."
He also toured a kindergarten in Obrenovac repaired form the funds donated by Germany.
