Kosovo Office Director Marko Đurić has said that "Serbia will be expected to change its Constitution, but not just because of the relationship with Priština."

"Constitution to be changed for EU integration"

Đurić spoke for the state broadcaster RTS to notice that the report refers to the application of the Brussels agreement, the establishment of a community of Serb municipalities, as well as "addressing issues of civil authorities."

Speaking about the possibility of changing the Constitution, he pointed out that in the negotiations between Belgrade and Priština, "the legal framework is seen as something given, but at some point has to fit the community of Serb municipalities in the legal system in order to have legal certainty."

According to him, "it is important that the Serbian Constitution provides for the possibility to adopt a constitutional law that refers to Kosovo and Metohija."

Šurić also believes that "sometimes the question of relations between Belgrade and Priština is pushed into the center of attention, while other issues necessary for European integration are neglected."

Regarding the resumption of negotiations with the EU, Đurić expects that one more chapter, beside chapter 35, will be opened by the end of the year.

Commenting on media reports that Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga would come to Belgrade in November, he said he had no such knowledge, adding at the same time that "all citizens who do not violate the law can move on the whole territory of Serbia."

Speaking about the assembly in Priština that is yet to been constituted several months after elections, Đurić said the fact there was no government there "also does not suit us, but we cannot choose the leadership for Albanians."
