"However, based on information presented to us by the relevant services, we concluded that there is no information on preparations for terrorist acts against Serbs or other non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija," Drecun said after a closed-door session of the committee.

Individual instances of this kind are possible, he said.

At Tuesday's session, the committee assessed the threat to, and the security of, Serbs and other non-Albanians in the province due to the presence of radical Islamists and jihadists returning from Syria and Iraq, Drecun said.

"Our assessment is that the level of the threat of radical Islam, in terms of security threats and terrorist acts, is not prominent at this time, and the situation will be monitored," Drecun said.

"The session was held behind closed doors because the material that we had obtained from the relevant services is marked as strictly confidential," Drecun added.

Asked if the threat is the reason behind a boost in KFOR's presence in Kosovo, Drecun responded that it is not for him to interpret the move and that KFOR will issue an official statement on the motives behind any reinforcements of its presence.

Some media have reported that around 150 jihadist fighters have been recruited in Kosovo and quoted foreign sources that allege that at least 20 terrorist cells for recruiting and training jihadists are active in Serbia including Kosovo, as well as in Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia.
