Liht: Together against dangerous ghost of past

"We hope that we are nowadays in a situatuion where we can talk about the end of one of the toughest centuries in history and that we will celebrate the start of the new one," she noted.

’’This forum proves that there is knowledge and creativity out there that can help tackle challenges and it is obvious by looking at the participants that there is room for optimism’’, she said.

"Of course, this is only true if we work together and do our best to rid ourselves of this very dangerous ghost that still lurks and in fact undermines the future of our Europe and the world," she remarked.

Liht commended German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the bold decision to bring together the leaders of the Western Balkans, outgoing EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on her work to facilitate the talks between Belgrade and Pristina and future EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, who she hopes will continue Ashton's efforts.

The forum was organised by the Belgrade Forum for Political Excellence, European Movement in Serbia and Belgrade Centre for Security Policy and Tanjug is its media sponsor.

According to the organisers, this year's event has attracted the biggest attention so far, both in Serbia and abroad.
