Besides the equipment, the donation also covered two years of forensic material needed for the courses.

The donation is part of a EUR 1.5 million project to improve the Serbian Interior Ministry.

Stefanović and Asp also viewed a demonstration of the work of forensic teams at the academy.

Forensics helps solve some of the most difficult cases, and the goal here is to use Sweden's help to make the Serbian police one of the best equipped and trained police forces out there, Stefanović stated.

Sweden's help in improving the Serbian police capabilities when it comes to forensics is very important for Serbia's EU integration, especially in meeting the requirements from chapter 24 of the accession talks, which refers to justice, freedom and security, he remarked.

Sweden has had a constructive relationship with the Serbian Interior Ministry for some time now, Asp noted.

He pointed out that his country was the third largest donor in Serbia and that a substantial part of that assistance was focused on cooperation with the Interior Ministry.

This cooperation covers different areas, including police reform, development of the police's forensic capabilities and improvements to intelligence, the Swedish ambassador said.
