"I welcome their appointment. I know them personally. They have both visited Serbia at my invitation and I know they support Serbia's EU integration strongly. I am certain we will work well together," Dačić told the Blic daily.

When asked if that meant there would be "no ultimatums and pressure on Serbia," he responded he expected "fair cooperation and mutual trust."

Serbia's Minister for EU Integration Jadranka Joksimović said Mogherini's appointment was "not unexpected," and that given that Mogherini would mediate in the Kosovo talks, she expected "the constructive and impartial approach to the talks in Brussels to continue, because the EU is a system, although, of course, the format of personality means a lot."

Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić has congratulated Donald Tusk and Federica Mogheri on their appointments.

"I am convinced that during your term Europe will be an even better and more desirable place to live in for all the people from EU countries, but that you will also pay attention to and fight for those who wish to become a part of the EU," he stated.

Vučić said Serbia would be a sincere partner and associate to Tusk and Mogherini, and that it would do everything in internal reforms and political and economic progress to become a country that the EU would like to see as a member.

"Serbia knows that the road to full EU membership is difficult and long and we expect your criticism, support and assistance in achieving our vital interest, and that is EU membership," he said in his congratulatory letter.
