"Serbia's position when it comes to the situation in Israel, but also in Ukraine is clear. Our country respects the territorial integrity of all member states of the UN and calls for peaceful resolution of conflicts," Gašić was quoted as saying.

Gašić and Levy discussed the current situation in the Gaza Strip, in Israel and the Middle East, and the ambassador stressed that his country's ongoing military operation was being carried out "with the aim of destroying rocket launchers and tunnels in Gaza and halting rocket attacks against the Israeli territory."

Speaking about the cooperation between Serbia and Israel, the two officials agreed that there was space for improving military, military medical, scientific-technical and military education cooperation.

Gašić pointed out that inter-departmental procedures were under way regarding the drafting of the text of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments on military, defense and industrial cooperation.

The minister added that plans of activities for bilateral defense cooperation in 2014 and 2015 "will be harmonized in the coming period," a Serbian MoD statement said.

Gašić informed the Israeli ambassador in detail about the consequences of the catastrophic May floods in Serbia, and thanked him for the humanitarian aid provided by his country.

The Israeli diplomat stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the Military Archives of the Ministry of Defense and the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial center.
