U.S. ambassador: Donor conference initiative "encouraging"

Ambassador Kirby qualified the initiative as encouraging, especially because of the fact that Serbia is interested in helping other countries in the region as well, which is a good signal for the development of future cooperation, the president's press service said.

During the meeting with Nikolić, Kirby expressed regret over the catastrophic floods that recently hit Serbia and underscored that it turned out Serbia has many friends who promptly demonstrated solidarity and sent assistance.

He said that the Serbian president contributed greatly over the past two years to the improvement of relations in the region and Serbia's ties with many countries around the globe and elevated the country's external relations to the level which was inconceivable only a few years ago, states the release.

As a result, many countries unambiguously demonstrated their determination to help Serbia as soon and as much as is possible, Kirby noted.
