Serbian Army chief, Russian ambassador praise cooperation

Chepurin and Diković expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far between Russian and Serbian rescuers and confidence that the successful participation in flood rescue operations will continue as long as necessary.

The ambassador said that the Russian rescuers were "ready to do whatever it takes to help their Serbian colleagues wherever necessary."

"We see that cooperation has produced good results and I hope that if any problems arise we will be able to solve them quickly," Chepurin said.

General Diković thanked the Russian Federation for the help extended to Serbia.

He thanked Chepurin for coming to see for himself the task realization capabilities of the teams involved in the defense operations and for the support to efforts to defend Šabac and part of the Mačva District from flooding.

The Russian team has 76 rescuers, including 20 divers, and advanced mechanical and technical equipment.

Special rescue units from Belarus, Austria, Slovenia and Montenegro have come to help the Serbian Army (VS) and Serbia’s Interior Ministry (MUP) Emergency Situations Sector in rescue operations.

While in Šabac, Chepurin also confirmed that his country would take part in Thursday's donor meeting in Belgrade, called to focus on collecting aid and repairing the damage from the catastrophic floods that have hit Serbia.

Serbia is observing three days of mourning for those who perished in the floods, and on behalf of the Russian leadership the ambassador extended his condolences.
