As part of internal party reforms, the Socialists (SPS) are preparing "to change their name, and policy," reports the daily Večernje Novosti.

Ahead of the party congress in late December, the Socialists will conduct extensive research among members and the public to see how a possible change of the party's name and symbols would be accepted.According to the paper, in case of a positive reaction, "it is not ruled out thata new name, but also policy, will be formulated on the wave of a new international political organization now being established - the Progressive Alliance."
According to the daily, the SPS wants to join as a member.
Dačić has revealed that that he had been considering for a while changes to the party's name and symbols, as part of "comprehensive reforms" that would go beyond organizational and staffing matters.
Meanwhile, the SPS has given up on its bid to join the Socialist International. The party's new goal, membership in the Progressive Alliance, concerns a new movement that brings together parties of left of center with the aim of becoming a counterweight to the most influential political organization in the EU - the European People's Party (EPP).
SPS International Secretary Nataša Gaćeša confirmed for the newspaper that the SPS took part in the Alliance's conference held in April in Amsterdam, and that "more will be known about the manner of its organization and work" late this year.
"The theme of the conference was how to make the progressive policy more effective. It is necessary that people see us as an economic alternative and that we, with a range of measures, support the development and more secure lives of the citizens. The SPS will after the redesign essentially be the most vital political platform in Serbia, open to changes, which is a condition for progress and development," said Gaćeša.
