BELGRADE Honorary president of the opposition Democratic Party (DS) Boris Tadic has said that early parliamentary elections in Serbia "are necessary." In an interview for Tanjug, the former Serbian president noted he was ready to return to the position of DS president if that was the will of the majority in the party. Tadic ready to lead Democrats once again "Taking over the position of party leader is certainly not my goal, but if that is necessary for fulfilling the party’s aims and if that is the will of the majority, I am ready to take that role,“ Tadic said. He also told the news agency that he "never said he backed a coalition with the Serb Progressive Party (SNS)." Regarding the session of the DS Main Board scheduled for January 18, Tadic said that the DS local boards which came out against party leader Dragan Djilas showed that the DS was "still the only democratic option in Serbia, because there is the opportunity to declare oneself on the work and results of the party.“ Asked whether media allegations that he told Djilas he could not head the electoral list were true, Tadic refused to answer directly. "We will be crossing that bridge if we get to it,“ Tadic said. (Tanjug) Tanjug VIP
