Japanese official meets with Serbian president, PM

Serbia is resolved to complete reforms, and thankful to Japan's people for the support for the reform process, President Tomislav Nikolić has said.

BELGRADE Serbia is resolved to complete reforms, and thankful to Japan's people for the support for the reform process, President Tomislav Nikolic has said. He made the remarks while meeting with Japan's Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobuo Kishi in Belgrade on Tuesday. Japanese official meets with Serbian president, PM Nikolic and Kishi talked about a yen loan project for the thermal power plant Nikola Tesla, and conditions in which Japanese companies operate in Serbia, the president's press service noted in a release. "Serbia is determined to bring the reforms to a successful conclusion and create a favorable business environment so as to attract new investors, and fully combat corruption and any other type of crime and secure a better living standard for all citizens," Nikolic said. "We are thankful to the people of Japan for the support we are getting in conducting the reforms," Nikolic said, adding that in the last two years, Serbia did a lot to emerge from the crisis, and voiced belief that Serbia is now on the right track to achieve success. Kishi said that the successful realization of the yen loan would further improve traditionally good relations between the two countries. Kishi extended great thanks to the Serbian people for the assistance that it gave to Japan two years ago, after the catastrophic earthquake. "Improve relations" Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Japanese Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobuo Kishi stated on Tuesday that the two countries' traditionally good and friendly ties need to be further enhanced by continuation of an intense political dialogue, and Dacic called on Japanese businessmen to find out more about the investment possibilities in Serbia. Japan supports Serbia's EU path and the search for a solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue through the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, states the release issued by the Serbian government Office for Cooperation with the Media. The release states that Dacic insisted on improvement of bilateral economic cooperation and called on the Japanese business delegation to visit Serbia and learn more about the possibilities and benefits of investing in the Serbian economy. During the talks, the two high officials stated that the exchange of goods between Serbia and Japan recorded a gradual increase in 2012 and 2013, and noted that Japanese companies are interested in exports of whole foods from Serbia and in investments in the energy sector. Since 1999, Japan granted Serbia over EUR 460 million worth of loans and donations, the release states. Dacic called on representatives of the Japanese royal family to visit Serbia.
