BELGRADE Oliver Antic, who last week announced revelations about a financial scandal, "made a mistake," the ruling SNS Executive Board President Radomir Nikolic said. "If I was him I'd submit my resignation to the position at the (Serbian) Presidency," this SNS official, who is the son of President Tomislav Nikolic, told B92 on Thursday. Presidential adviser "made mistake, should step down" Antic is an adviser to the president. Radomir Nikolic added that he "did not know what will happen next with Antic," and that "everyone has the right to make mistakes, except the Presidency." Speaking about the upcoming electoral assembly of his party, he said that there were "people who have an excess of ambition or are lazy and want to succeed in other ways." "Once you start to confront such people, they tie themselves to somebody else so we get to the point where 'Vucic's and Toma's people' are mentioned. We are looking for quality, we have 350,000 members, and we want them to work in the best way," Nikolic said. Speaking about mayors and directors of public companies from the ranks of the Progressives (SNS), Nikolic said that there was "a list of 40 people who could be dismissed," but added that this decision will be made by party leader Aleksandar Vucic and the party's presidency. As for the announced candidacy of SNS MP Vladimir Cvijan, Nikolic said that Cvijan's bid to be elected the party president was "completely frivolous because it is impossible for him to win." "The SNS is pleased with Vucic, he has results, the popularity of the party is built on his popularity, with him we are winning in elections, it is illogical for anyone to run against Vucic. We are all proud of Vucic, I see no technical possibility for him (Cvijan) to become a candidate, because he needs the support of 15 (party) boards. He will now interpret these words as pressure on those boards. I was of the opinion that we should have expelled Cvijan because he had damaged the reputation of the party. That was not done, and to expel him now would be seen as 'Vucic's showdown with opponents'," Nikolic said. He then noted that the SNS was not an autocratic party, as described by Cvijan, and denied that "only those who sing Vucic's praises can advance." Commenting on the possibility of early elections, Nikolic said that he agreed with SNS official and cabinet minister Zorana Mihajlovic, and that elections "should be held as soon as possible."
