BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic received in Belgrade on Tuesday the credentials of the newly-appointed Ambassador of Iran Majid Fahim Pour. The Serbian leader expressed his gratitude to Iran for its consistent stand to not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo. President grateful to Iran for Kosovo stance Nikolic told the ambassador that he expected Iran to remain firm in its position on Kosovo. Nikolic said that he believes friendly ties between the two nations and their several years' long cooperation would be enhanced in the future and that the economic cooperation would further improve as there are possibilities and mutual interest for this. Nikolic expressed belief that Iran will soon see for itself that it has many friends in Serbia. The new ambassador said that, as the country with the crucial role in the Balkan region and its stability and security, Serbia occupies a special place in Iran's foreign policy and this is why the development of relations with Serbia is of major importance for Iran. Fahim Pour noted that the two countries have always maintained good relations and that Iran believes that there are ample grounds for cooperation and development of bilateral relations regardless of certain unwanted obstacles. Having in mind the existing conditions, political talks should create adequate conditions for cooperation in other areas as well through regulation of bilateral relations, the diplomat said. According to him, the staging of the 14th session of the Mixed committee on the two countries' economic cooperation and signing a three-year programme of cultural cooperation in 2013 will greatly contribute to this goal. "Since Serbia and Iran share great potentials in various areas such as economy, the two nations can enjoy the fruit of the cooperation," the Iranian ambassador said. (Tanjug) Tanjug
