“We must reach agreement if we want EU talks date”
PM Ivica Dačić says Serbia has to reach “some kind of deal“ on the implementation of the Brussels agreement if it wants to get a date for the EU talks.

NOVI SAD PM Ivica Dacic says Serbia has to reach “some kind of deal“ on the implementation of the Brussels agreement if it wants to get a date for the EU talks. The prime minister expects the implementation plan to reached next week. “We must reach agreement if we want EU talks date” Dacic told reporters that it was yet to be seen how a meeting with Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci on May 21 in Brussels would go. “If we want to get a date, we will have to reach some kind of agreement on the implementation plan. Nobody expects us to implement it in the next 15 days but we should agree on when it could be implemented and how next week,” he explained. The PM stressed that Serbia wanted to reach an agreement, adding that it would not be good if the implementation plan could not be made after the agreement had been signed. “But on the other hand, there are some lines we cannot cross,” Dacic pointed out. He said that he had been neither pessimistic nor optimistic during the negotiations. “I am a realistic man and I know there are problems and I know that it is hard for working groups to make decisions and that it is easier for someone at the top to make a decision. This is how it is going to be this time as well,” the PM noted. He said that he would meet with German FM Guido Westerwelle on Monday and that the meeting with Thaci was scheduled for Tuesday, adding that he would soon meet with British Foreign Secretary William Hague. Dacic said that if the agreement on the implementation was reached, German Bundestag would start a procedure to determine whether it would support a decision to grant Serbia a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks. “If this does not happen, we cannot get a date and we will have to wait for the next year.
