BELGRADE, NOVI SAD Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic says he is hoping that Serbia will get a date for the beginning of the EU accession negotiations in June. He added that “there is no reason not to get it”. No reason not to get EU talks date, president says “If we do not get it, then euroskeptics will have the right to yell from the top of their lungs in Serbia,” the president told Belgrade-based Prva TV. Commenting on the Brussels agreement, Nikolic said that the EU bureaucrats had often been on Albanians’ side in the negotiations but that Serbia’s arguments had been very strong. “The things we present are so strong that they can never say that Kosovo is a state. It is not a state and it never will be. We will succeed because neither the EU nor Albanians in Pristina have any solution other than to reach an agreement with us,” he stressed. The president added that the Brussels agreement had been reached so Serbs and Albanians could live together and so nobody could try to trick Serbia later by trying to carry out something that had not been agreed. Nikolic said that there had been no blackmails regarding Kosovo in talks he had had with representatives of the international community but that all other members of the Serbian delegation had complained that they had received worse offers after every break. He said that it “will not be good if Albanians and the EU try to pretend that the agreement does not exist and if they try to carry out something that was not agreed”. Commenting on the government’s work, the president said that the “honeymoon phase” was almost over and that the cabinet members would soon have to seriously commit to solving of economic issues, unemployment and social issues. Nikolic added that he was the first democratic president of Serbia because he had left his party (the Serbian Progressive Party) after the election victory and because he did not interfere with the government’s work. He said earlier on Friday that he was proud of Vojvodina and of what Serbia had in it. Tomislav Nikolic (Beta) Beta Tanjug
