BELGRADE The head of EU Delegation to Serbia hopes Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci will find appropriate solutions in order to start implementing the Brussels agreement. "It is very important for Serbia, so that the EU member states see it as a credible factor and for all 27 ministers to give the green light in June to grant a date to start accession negotiations," Vincent Deger told Tanjug ahead of the opening of the Festival of European Film in Belgrade. EU representative: Clear plan of implementation "What we expect is a clear plan for implementation of the agreement reached on April 19, though of course we know that it is not always easy to find the appropriate modalities for that," said the head of the EU delegation, adding that the details are the ones that can cause problems. Belgrade and Pristina must start with the implementation of the agreement and agree on a number of difficult issues such as security measures, powers, and other issues, he said, adding that in recent days progress was made on that front. When asked what he expected from the meeting, set to be held by Dacic and Thaci on May 21 in Brussels, Deger expressed "hope that the two prime ministers, with the mediation of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, will be able to find suitable solutions so that the implementation of the agreement begins ." According to him, this will not happen "overnight" - instead, "a certain period of time, perhaps a year or more," is necessary for the implementation. "However, important steps have to be made immediately and that's what we want to see," the EU diplomat was quoted as saying by Tanjug. Asked if he expected that Dacic and Thaci will officially sign the agreement on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, which they have initialed, Deger reiterated his view that "the agreement was already signed on April 19." EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on Tuesday called for the meeting to take place in Brussels on May 21 to discuss the implementation of the Brussels agreement, which, she said, was of key importance.
