BELGRADE Belgrade’s liaison officer Dejan Pavicevic says that according to the Brussels agreement, his position does not have a diplomatic status. He stressed that one of his tasks would be the implementation of the Brussels agreement. “Liaison officers will speed up communication” “We will make the communication easier, speed it up, you will have people in Belgrade and Pristina who will be able to react quickly and convey messages,” Pavicevic told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). He noted that liaison officers would do their work in the EU’s offices in Belgrade and Pristina. “According to the agreement, each side should provide security to the liaison officers, so Kosovo police will take care of my safety,” Pavicevic noted. He expressed hope that an agreement with northern Kosovo Serbs would be reached during First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to Kosovo on Sunday. “I am optimistic and believe an agreement will be reached,” Pavicevic stressed. He reiterated that the exchange of liaison officers should be done by the end of June. The Belgrade’s liaison officer said that after Serbian and Kosovo PMs Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci had reached the agreement in Brussels, “there have been many disagreements that are being solved through technical talks” and that “a technical agreement that is acceptable to both sides has been reached”. Pavicevic added that Pristina had insisted on a diplomatic status of the liaison officers but that “it is not happening”. He stressed that national symbols would not be displayed in the liaison officers’ offices in Belgrade and Pristina. Dejan Pavicevic (Tanjug, file) Beta Tanjug
