BELGRADE A statement from the draft declaration on Vojvodina's rights which asserts that the province is part of Serbia "by the will of its citizens" can be removed. The controversial provision reads that Vojvodina's autonomy was "the historic and natural right of its citizens and that it is by their will a part of Serbia." "Controversial statement can be excluded from declaration" “This provision can be excluded immediately. I publicly claim the responsibility that it will be excluded,” Pajtic said. Pajtic said that the controversial sentence due to which the declaration was qualified as separatist was "not important," and noted that "in 1918 the citizens of Vojvodina decided to a part of Serbia." “The Vojvodina citizens are committed to Serbia, but they demand the respect of their legal rights,” he said. Pajtic, who has been under increasing pressure from the ruling SNS and their allies to resign, dismissed the criticism that the draft declaration of the Vojvodina government has arrived at a bad moment when Serbia was making great efforts to resolve the Kosovo and Metohija issue in the EU-mediated dialogue with Pristina. This high-ranking official of the Democratic Party also said that there had been eight rounds of talks in Brussels, and that a date of the crucial decision was constantly moved, adding that "the comments would be the same at any moment." Pajtic stated that "the date of the declaration's adoption was not important, but rather the fact that the work in the province is hindered, the autonomy is increasingly abolished, the laws are not respected and there is no cooperation between the provincial and the central authorities."
