ZVECAN Kosovska Mitrovica District chief Radenko Nedeljkovic says that Belgrade is in fact being asked to "indirectly recognize Kosovo". "That's too high a price, not only for a date (for the start of EU accession talks), but also for the (membership in the) European Union," said Nedeljkovic in an interview for Zvecan's Most TV. "Belgrade asked to indirectly recognize Kosovo" This official added that Belgrade should clearly state that without Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija Serbs would not survive. He also advised Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, who is today taking part in the Brussels talks, "to take the position that one side cannot gain everything and the other lose everything". "Only then will the international community realize that Belgrade has drawn a red line at this time," said Nedeljkovic. The district chief also stated that the security situation in northern Kosovo was unstable and expressed his concern that the spring may see unrest in the Brdjani settlement in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, that is inhabited both by Serbs and ethnic Albanians. "This is a textbook case of usurpation of Serbian property and illegal construction of buildings for Albanians who never previously lived there, while works are being secured by the Kosovo Police Service on the orders of the Kosovo government," said Nedeljkovic.
