BELGRADE Vojislav Kostunica has stated that a platform for Kosovo is the first attempt to define the position of Kosovo as an autonomous province inside Serbia. The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader said that the platform was also an attempt to define autonomy of Serbs in the autonomous province of Kosovo inside Serbia. “Platform represents attempt to define Kosovo’s position” Kostunica told Tanjug that the draft platform on Kosovo was the first step toward discontinuity of the previous government’s policy that was based on submission and EU’s interests instead of national interests. “A lot of things still need to be done, to more clearly define the constitutional and legal relations between Serbia and Kosovo and this is something that awaits us in the following days through the resolution that should contain the platform and some other principles in the Serbian parliament,” the DSS leader said, commenting on announcements that MPs will vote on the resolution on Kosovo on January 11. He explained that the DSS wanted to see the final document before voicing its final stance. “What has been done so far hints at the end of the policies we have had and that Kosovo can be kept inside Serbia in a special way,” he concluded, adding that there was no reason to put EU’s interest before our own.
