BELGRADE Serbian MPs adopted on Saturday the Law on Public Procurement which envisages partial centralization of public procurement. The Joint Services Administration will be in charge of the public procurement. Parliament adopts public procurement law 138 MPs voted for the bill, 34 MPs were against it and seven MPs did not vote. The Serbian parliament noted that the public procurement in state bodies would be done by the Joint Services Administration. The new law envisages introduction of a civil supervisor who will monitor all public procurement procedures worth more than RSD 1bn. According to the new Law on Public Procurement, the number of exemptions from the law will be reduced and mechanisms for prevention of conflict of interest and corruption in public procurement will be introduced. It is expected that the implementation of the law, primarily the partial centralization of procurement, will save up to seven percent of the total value of public procurement. The ruling coalition expects that at least EUR 600mn will be saved on an annual level. The first Law on Public Procurement was passed in 2002 and has been changed several times since.
