BELGRADE Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) official Branko Ruzic says a draft platform still needs some work and that it is necessary to reach a consensus on the issue. “This is not a competition to determine a program of a political party regarding Kosovo but a very sensitive subject on which we need to reach a consensus if we are a serious state,” he told daily Politika. “Solution for Kosovo must be realistic” Ruzic said that the SPS’ position was identical to its leader Ivica Dacic – that proposals in the platform needed to be realistic and close to the final epilogue. “The most important thing is that the platform should be discussed in parliament and that it is achievable, and that it is in the end in accordance with the intent of the state of Serbia to preserve its integrity,” he explained. The SPS official underscored that the platform still was not final and that it still needed some work in order for it to “see the light of day in parliament”. “This is just the initial draft. Not even the Serbian president says that the text is final,” he added. According to him, the rights of Serbs living in Kosovo need to be “standardized and a need to have a functional extraterritoriality of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), meaning monasteries, must be respected”. When asked to comment on positions of leaders of opposition parties regarding the Kosovo platform, Ruzic said that everybody had the right to say what they felt they had to say. “Every party will have some kind of contribution,” he concluded.
