NOVI SAD Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic has said that only the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) would benefit from early elections. He added that they would be able to “cash in” their current popularity and stressed that the opposition would be completely unprepared for the possible early elections. Minister: Progressives would benefit from early election However, Ljajic stressed that the ruling coalition had not discussed the possible early elections. He told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik that an “absolute increase of Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic and SNS’ rating“ was a fact. “It is clear that the new elections would suit the Progressives because they would be able to valorize their current popularity,” Ljajic noted. “I do not know whether there would be new elections but I am sure that the only the SNS would benefit from early elections at the moment,” he explained. The minister said that the previous government had done a lot in combat against corruption and organized crime and stressed that “we now have an important step forward, probably a turning point in combat against systemic corruption”. He said that it was important that the combat had support of the government and the opposition. Ljajic explained that two parallel processes were underway in Serbia – strengthening of the system and institutions and combat against corruption. Rasim Ljajic (Tanjug, file) Dnevnik Tanjug
