BELGRADE Serbia’s Deputy PM Suzana Grubjesic is convinced that the EU will set a date for the beginning of Serbia's EU accession talks in the first half of 2013. She said in Brussels that EU officials commended Serbia on the progress it made in the last six months but that they stressed that reforms needed to continue. “Serbia will start EU negotiations in six months” “Conclusions (from the EU ministerial meeting) give a timeframe, they say clearly that the negotiations with Serbia should be opened in the first half of the next presidency. Ireland will preside from January 1 and if we continue reforms and the dialogue with Pristina, we will have the full right to expect the opening of the negotiations,” Grubjesic told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). According to her, Serbia is “ready to start the negotiations tomorrow if necessary”. “We adopted an action plan in October that will be valid until September next year, a national coordination body has been formed, 35 expert groups are working constantly and we are ready to open the negotiations tomorrow if we have to,” she noted. The deputy PM stressed that the start of the EU accession negotiations depended on the implementation of agreements with Pristina and added that northern Kosovo would soon be the main topic of the talks between the Serbian and Kosovo prime ministers. “Northern Kosovo has always been mentioned. When one says ‘accept the reality’, it goes for northern Kosovo as well and it will certainly be a topic of the political dialogue because only that way we can reach a sustainable solution,” she explained. Grubjesic said that EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Affairs Catherine Ashton should file a report in March. Suzana Grubjesic (Tanjug, file) Beta
