BELGRADE The Serbian parliament started a session on Saturday at which MPs voted on several bills, including the draft Law on Public Companies. A new session will begin soon and MPs will debate changes to several legislative bills. Serbian MPs adopt draft Law on Public Companies Aside from the Law on Public Companies, the MPs today also adopted a set of economic laws and three laws on health system. 123 MPs voted for the Law on Public Companies, 43 were against and 16 abstained from voting. According to the new law, boards of directors in public companies will no longer exist and directors will not be allowed to be members of any political party. According to Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic, the new bill will allow the state to withdraw from public companies and allow their professionalization. Parliament did not accept changes to the Law on Budget System proposed by the Vojvodina Assembly earlier today. The MPs also rejected an amendment of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), which was adopted by the Vojvodina Assembly. The government proposed parliament not to adopt the proposal of the Vojvodina Assembly that would guarantee that the province will get seven percent of the republic budget. Aside from the Law on Public Companies, the MPs today also adopted a set of economic laws and three laws on health system.
