BELGRADE The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has filed a criminal complaint against Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic for violating the Law on Assembly of Citizens. According to the law, it is forbidden to hold a public rally near the Serbian parliament before and during sessions. LDP files charges against justice minister Selakovic was at a protest against the Hague Tribunal rulings organized by university students on Tuesday. “Students and other citizens who were protesting against the Hague Tribunal’s decision did not have to know that it is not allowed to hold a rally in front of the parliament building but the justice minister knows this very well,” the LDP believes. They expect the Prosecution to act on their complaint and point that the fact that Selakovic is a member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) “must not be a reason for abolition of a troubler who abused the position of justice minister and tried to win political points on misfortune of his people and Hague Tribunal’s verdicts”. The LDP also expects PM Ivica Dacic to relieve Selakovic of his duty and “that way send a clear message that no minister in his government belongs in a company of lawyers of Zoran Djindjic’s murderers and organizations that abused the student rally and threaten Serbian citizens every day by making a hit list for journalists, writers, actors, political opponents and civil sector figures”. The LDP has already called on the minister to resign but Selakovic said that his party, SNS, would decide whether he should step down or not.
