BELGRADE Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas has stated that the ruling structure in Belgrade was not made on principles of the division of the spoils. He added that it was formed on ideas and achieved results. No reason to change Belgrade ruling majority, mayor says The mayor said that he therefore saw no reason for anyone to change something that was clearly the citizens’ will. “We have a strong coalition agreement with the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS), we have an agreement with Socialist Party of Serbia, with whom we have never signed the coalition agreement. We function as a an authority and I do not see any reason why anybody would now in any way change something that was very clearly citizens’ will,” Djilas stressed. When asked to comment on PUPS’ statement that they would discuss the majority with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), he said that he had already answered the question. The issue of the change of the ruling structure in the capital was reopened yesterday when Serbian parliament Speaker and SNS official Nebojsa Stefanovic said that the SNS would next week discuss the issue. Bearing in mind that a session of the Belgrade city assembly is held today, this was the most interesting topic for the journalists. An SNS councilor said that the Progressives would discuss the issue next week, while the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) said they were waiting for the invitation from the SNS to discuss the change of the ruling structure in Belgrade. A PUPS councilor said his party would listen to what the Progressives had to offer while a Democratic Party (DS) councilor said that the citizens of Belgrade clearly said in the elections who they wanted to be a mayor and that any change of the ruling structure would therefore be illegitimate.
