Nikolić's genocide statement is “unacceptable”

THE HAGUE Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz says Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic’s statement that there was no genocide in Srebrenica is unacceptable. “Such statement is contrary to rulings of the International Court of Justice and the Hague Tribunal and it does not contribute to the reconciliation,” he told Radio Free Europe. Nikolic's genocide statement is “unacceptable” According to Brammertz, such statements represent disrespect for victims and those who survived the crimes. “When you deny something that is evident you of course do not open the door to reconciliation and peaceful life together,” the Hague Tribunal prosecutor stressed. Commenting on former Republic of Srpska (RS) President Radovan Karadzic’s statement that he should be rewarded for “trying to prevent the war”, Brammerrtz said: “We are completely convinced that he played an important role in the preparation and carrying out of ethnic cleansing, that he played a main role in the Srebrenica genocide, that he is responsible for the siege of Sarajevo and the death of 10,000 Sarajevo citizens,” he stressed. The prosecutor added that Ratko Mladic’s medical condition was much better than when he first came to the Hague Tribunal. Brammertz said that although the Hague Tribunal’s mandate expired in 2014, it was more realistic that the Tribunal would continue its work in 2015, bearing in mind that three important trials still needed to be finished. Nikolić's genocide statement is “unacceptable”

According to Brammertz, such statements represent disrespect for victims and those who survived the crimes.
