BELGRADE U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will not come to Serbia, the U.S. embassy in Belgrade has confirmed. Clinton was supposed to visit Belgrade and Pristina in early October but gave up on the idea for several reasons. Clinton will not visit Belgrade, U.S. embassy confirms She will not formally take part in a political dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina although it was originally planned for Clinton and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton to offer a platform for the negotiations. The plan fell through and Ashton will prepare the platform on her own. However, the main reason for Clinton’s planned visit was a conference on women in politics that will be organized by Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga. Since the conference will not be organized at the sufficiently high level, as it was originally planned, the U.S. secretary of state decided not to include the Balkans in her October agenda. Clinton visited Serbia in October 2010 as a part of her Balkan tour. The main topics of her talks with then Serbian officials were Serbia’s steps on its EU pathway and the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
