SNS party leader Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday that they were yet to receive any answer from the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). The Progressives (SNS) invited the SPS to engage in talks aimed at securing a parliamentary majority. Progressives still await "answer from Socialists" There has been no response "although we has offered them agreements and a plan that are more than fair", noted Vucic. At a press conference in Belgrade, Vucic said that the SNS is in contact with all political parties in Serbia, but that it is primarily waiting for an answer from the SPS, the party without which a new ruling coalition could not be formed. “As far as we are concerned, we are ready to form a new government in few days' time, but we need partners for that. As soon as we have an agreement of that kind, we will inform you and complete the job in several days,” Vucic said. When asked whether there is now a fairer chance of forming the so-called 'grand coalition' with the Democratic Party (DS) taking into account the difficulties that have so far arisen in the government formation talks, Vucic voiced opinion that it would be unreasonable to expect that. He called on the DS and all other parties which are being engaged in the talks with that party to secure a majority as soon as possible, if they could, underlining that Serbia has too many problems and that is necessary that it starts resolving them during the summer. “The SNS did everything in its power to form a government. We are asking all participants on the political scene why there is still no government. We offered to our potential coalition partners really fair agreements and a plan aimed at overcoming the crisis - and we received no answer,” Vucic said. He explained that he had talked with SPS leader Ivica Dacic about goals and results of a future government, but stressed that the SNS does not insist on holding all the important offices in Serbia. “I have even expressed the wish that all important positions be occupied by competent people who have nothing to do with our parties, and of whom all of us can be proud,” Vucic said, and chose not to answer when asked whether the SNS had offered Dacic the post of prime minister in order to join them in a ruling coalition.
