Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic stated on Saturday that electoral list “Choice for a Better Life” offered a clear plan for the future. He explained that the plan focused on the ways for the funds available to the government to be invested in the future and development, and added that they were not promising fairytales. Democrats promise “safe future, not fairytales” “I cannot promise immediate welfare, but I can take on the obligation to ensure that Serbia makes a strong move forward again within a year,” he stated during a convention of the list “Choice for a Better Life” in Resavica, near Aleksinac in south-east Serbia. “Our plan is simple, real-life and human,” the DS leader said and added that if citizens backed the plan on May 6 the government would continue with the path and would not stop despite the difficulties. “If you back the plan, Serbia will walk toward the EU. If you support it, I believe that we will achieve unanticipated heights, and jobs, investments and security will be close at hand. This is our plan, commitment and belief,” Tadic said addressing the convention. He underscored that in the months after the elections, difficult measures would have to be implemented, including the reduction of public spending so that Serbia could get back on its feet powerfully. “We have made many difficult decisions and we will continue to do so in the future. We have faced people and looked them in the eye despite the attacks. We need to continue following the path because it is the safest and the most likely way and the only solution that can improve Serbia's credibility, and the only way that guarantees that Serbia would become a key factor in the region,” Tadic noted. He warned the citizens that their choice on May 6 would define both themselves and their future, and added that they should not fall for the messages of political shifters who do not know where Serbia's future lies or place their trust in those who suggest that the country should remain neutral forever because “Serbia needs to keep moving forward”. Recalling the words of late Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic that it would take Serbia ten years to start again if it interrupts it path, Tadic said that the incumbent government had done all it could in order to prevent the country from grinding to a halt. “We have preserved every single development potential, and this was very difficult to achieve. Just look at Greece, Portugal, Hungary and even Croatia - these are the countries which subdued a part of their potentials due to the crisis, while we managed to preserve our potentials,” the DS leader pointed out. “Serbia is now one of very few countries that are investing in their development potentials, which can best be felt in the Resava region, where several mines have been revitalized and hundreds of young miners got jobs over the past four years,” he added. Listing the priorities of the list “Choice for a Better Life”, Tadic mentioned ensuring macroeconomic stability, support to small and mid-size companies, investments in infrastructure, energy and mining, prevention of brain drain and birth rate increase. He recalled that the mining was neglected for years but Serbia was now drafting balances of geological potentials because national treasures must not be split and drawn out as in certain moments of Serbian history. “Our entire vision of Serbia is committed to our children and our children's children. We do respect our grandparents but the idea of Serbia is not committed to our grandparents, it focuses on our children and the future, and this is why we need new energy and strength in the time to come, because this is the only way we can ensure jobs, investments and the things every mother wants for their child, that is, security and certainty,” Tadic concluded.
