The EU will start visa liberalization talks with Kosovo in the second half of January, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom’s office has stated. In a letter to Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi, Malmstrom said she would visit the Kosovo assembly on January 19-20 in order to start the talks about the visa liberalization. Kosovo to start visa liberalization talks in January She also commended the progress made by Pristina so far regarding readmission and forming of the integration fund that should help Kosovo citizens who have been deported from the EU member states after they return to Kosovo. The beginning of the talks stems from the EU interior ministers’ conclusion and European Commission’s recommendation, Malmstrom said in the letter. Kosovo is the only region in the Western Balkans whose citizens cannot travel to the EU countries without visas.

She also commended the progress made by Priština so far regarding readmission and forming of the integration fund that should help Kosovo citizens who have been deported from the EU member states after they return to Kosovo.
