German Ambassador to Serbia Wolfram Mass stated Friday that Germany would not set new conditions to Serbia ahead of the decision on the EU candidate status. He added that the conclusions of the European Council on Serbia's preconditions for the EU candidate status did not mention abolishment of the so-called parallel - i.e., Serbian - institutions in northern Kosovo. "Germany won’t set new conditions" The ambassador told journalists in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) that Germany expected that by the time this decision was rendered Serbia would implement all agreements reached in the dialogue, including Pristina's representation at multilateral forums, which, according to him, was not a new precondition. When asked whether the abolishment of parallel institutions might suddenly turn into a new precondition for the candidate status as it was the case with Pristina's regional representation, Mass said this would not happen. “In August during the visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel it was clearly stated that we expect the issues, which are discussed in the dialogue, to be implemented, and the regional representation was one of the topics at that time as well,” he explained. According to him, the conclusions of the Council of Europe, which postponed Serbia's EU candidate status for February, do not include any new requirements for the country. “We will certainly not set additional preconditions, but it is important for the issues which have been tabled in the dialogue to be implemented,” Mass underscored.
