EU interior ministers have agreed to simplify reintroduction of visas for countries from which large numbers of false asylum seekers are coming. The European Commission's proposal was adopted in Brussels on Tuesday and in order for the simplified procedure of suspending the visa free regime for the countries whose large number of citizens are seeking asylum in the Schengen zone to take effect, it needs to be adopted by the European Parliament. Suspension of visa free regime simplified The possibility of suspending the visa free regime could primarily refer to Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia, from which there has been a considerable growth of asylum seekers since the abolishment of the visa regime, above all of the Roma, who apply for asylum mainly in Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Luxembourg. So far, a mechanism has been in force whereby a reintroduction of visa regime required the consent of all EU member states at the level of heads of state and government. As of now, the decision will be made by interior ministers of the Schengen zone, which significantly simplifies the procedure.

Suspension of visa free regime simplified

The possibility of suspending the visa free regime could primarily refer to Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia, from which there has been a considerable growth of asylum seekers since the abolishment of the visa regime, above all of the Roma, who apply for asylum mainly in Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Luxembourg.

So far, a mechanism has been in force whereby a reintroduction of visa regime required the consent of all EU member states at the level of heads of state and government. As of now, the decision will be made by interior ministers of the Schengen zone, which significantly simplifies the procedure.
