Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz commended Serbia at a UN Security Council session Wednesday for extraditing Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic. However, he demanded a serious investigation into the network of their helpers prior to the arrests. Chief Hague prosecutor commends Serbia’s efforts “We want to see results in the investigation into how they managed to avoid arrest for so many years,” Brammertz said in New York, stressing that since his last visit to Belgrade in November, he saw that little progress had been made in that regard and demanded better results by the time he prepared his next report. He commended Serbia for extraditing the two last Hague fugitives, stressing that it was a proof that nobody could evade justice forever. In the section of his report dealing with Croatia's cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, Brammertz criticized some of the country's officials for statements they had made regarding the Hague Tribunal’s verdict in the case against General Ante Gotovina. The chief prosecutor also criticized Bosnia-Herzegovina for the escape of former Hague Tribunal indictee Radovan Stankovic from the prison in Foca. The man had been handed by the Hague Tribunal to the judicial authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a local trial. Serge Brammertz (Beta, file)
