The agreement on the integrated management of borders between Kosovo and Serbia is a “de jure” recognition of Kosovo, Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci has said. According to Radio Free Europe, Pristina team chief Edita Tahiri and Thaci “spoke with admiration about the agreement, pointing out that it is Kosovo’s victory in the dialogue with Belgrade” while they were presenting the agreement to the Kosovo government. Thaci: Serbia de jure recognized Kosovo The Kosovo prime minister said that the agreement represented a very important step toward establishment of the rule of law in northern Kosovo. “Integrated management of the border as a European model guarantees quick and easy movement of people and goods. But at the same time the agreement also represents ‘de jure’ recognition of Kosovo, i.e. the borders by Serbia in one way or another,” Thaci stressed. He added that Kosovo institutions would implement Kosovo laws at six crossings while EULEX would supervise and provide support when it comes to implementation of European standards of the integrated border management. “What is being asked both from the witness and the guarantor of the interstate agreement is careful monitoring of its implementation and we will request that during the next few days from Brussels but from the U.S. as well,” Thaci stated. Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi has said that the implementation of the agreement will depend on the international community’s pressure on Serbia. “As far as our side is concerned, we will implement things that have been reached, and as far as Serbia is concerned, it depends on the international community’s pressure,” Rexhepi pointed out.
