PM Mirko Cvetkovic said on Thursday that the government would not take any steps towards recognition of Kosovo's independence, either explicitly or implicitly. Answering questions by MPs in the Serbian parliament, Cvetkovic said that the talks with Pristina were "difficult and do not include recognition". "No steps toward recognition of Kosovo" The province's ethnic Albanians unilaterally declared independence in early 2008 - a move which Serbia rejected. Asked by opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) MPs whether the government intends to forward to the Serbian parliament a declaration on Kosovo, Cvetkovic said that the Serbian government is ready to propose to the parliament a new declaration on Kosovo and Metohija, but that it also asks for support of all, because this is an issue of importance for the entire state. Cvetkovic explained that the Serbian government, by sending reports on Kosovo and Metohija, has fulfilled its obligation arising from the resolution which was passed in July. There was an idea to draft another document, but it has not been done because a majority for its adoption could not be secured, he said. Instead of adopting a constructive approach and passing a new resolution, there were political calculations, and therefore the government thought that it is better not to adopt a document with 126 votes, Cvetkovic said.
