Belgrade team chief Borislav Stefanovic has stated that an agreement on crossings has not been set as a precondition for Serbia's EU candidate status. “We have not received any such precondition, nor we have heard anything about that,” Stefanovic told daily Politika in response to claims that the agreement on crossings was set as a precondition in the draft resolution which is currently in the European Parliament. Administrative crossings “not condition for candidacy” “This resolution is under way and this is not the first resolution of the kind which is tabled for adoption in the EP whose majority of MPs are coming from the countries which have recognized Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence. However, this resolution is not binding,” he added. Stefanovic said that the solution to the administrative crossings had been outlined, adding that the only open issue was the manner in which the agreement would be reached honoring both parties' position on status. “We are fighting for our position, while the government in Pristina has even adopted some kind of a decision which prejudices the entire agreement and specifies Pristina's position which is unacceptable for us,” he noted. “The integrated management of the administrative crossings is one of the possible solutions, but it must not include any element indicating the so-called statehood of Kosovo. However, everything else is on the table. We will talk, we will consult, as always did, all authorized bodies and the Serbs in Kosovo,” the team chief said. He said that the agreement on university degrees, which was reached in the last round of talks between Belgrade and Pristina, implied the recognition of respective qualifications but with a diploma which would be issued as a substitute for the original one. “The substitute will not bear any signs of the so-called statehood of Kosovo and it will be ratified by the European Association of Universities. After that, the parties will be able to choose which of the documents suits them better”, Stefanovic underlined. Borislav Stefanovic (Tanjug, file)
