President Boris Tadic said late on Friday in Belgrade that "international credibility of Serbia has seen a marked increase in the field of security". That in turn made overall credibility of the state and the Serbian people to rise, showing clearly that Serbia is a safe country, the president told a reception organized to mark Day of the Serbian Military Security Agency (VBA). Serbia is safe country, says president Addressing the gathering Tadic said that Serbia is no longer an importer, but rather an exporter of security services, adding that its cooperation with other security actors in the world contributes significantly to the stability of other countries in the region, as well as to that of the EU. Tadic said that Serbia, like many other countries, faces serious security challenges. “We cannot expect these challenges to disappear once and for all. Serbia is facing not only the threats of organized crime and corruption, which undermine the foundations of this society, but also the challenges and threats of terrorism,” said Tadic. He stressed the need for Serbia's security services to be prepared to respond to the challenges in the times ahead. Tadic said that Serbia has a complicated geo-strategic position, which in economic terms might be advantageous, but when it comes to politics and security, it is “very difficult.” “We do not want to change the territory we live in and this is not even possible, but it means that in terms of security we have to be ready to meet all the challenges,” said Tadic. The VBA should coordinate all the security activities and continue cooperating with other security actors, he said. “In this way Serbia will contribute not only to its own development but also to the development of the entire region and the European and global security stability,” said Tadic. The president added that the security sector is an investment in the future and development. “The coordination of all security services is a necessary prerequisite for the security of our country and citizens, but at the same time it provides a greater inflow of investment, new jobs, safe capital placement, which is the prerequisite for development of any country,” Tadic stated.
