Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic conferred with Chinese businesspeople in Hong Kong on Friday, who voiced readiness to invest USD 2bn in projects in Serbia. Jeremic today started his official visit to the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong, meeting with officials of large companies, to whom he presented the possibilities of investing in Serbia. "I am very satisfied with today's talks, and the projects we discussed could be ready for implementation by the end of this month," Jeremic said after the meeting. Representatives of Chinese companies showed special interest in direct investments in the field of energy and textile industry, it was announced. One of the companies expressed readiness to transfer a large part of its production for European market to Serbia, whereas the other projects are Greenfield investments in the field of energy technology, Jeremic underscored. It was agreed that Chinese expert teams come to Serbia next week in order to discuss the conditions and prepare texts of memorandum of understanding which could be signed by end October, when the governor of one of economically most developed Chinese provinces Guangdong is scheduled to visit Serbia, the statement reads. Jeremic will confer with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi in Beijing on Saturday, and during the next two days he will be presiding over the session of the Inter-state Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Serbia and China chaired by the Serbia's Foreign Ministry and China's Ministry of Economy. Concrete projects the Chinese side showed interest in are worth around USD 2bn, with investment period of several years, the Foreign Ministry released in a statement.

"I am very satisfied with today's talks, and the projects we discussed could be ready for implementation by the end of this month," Jeremić said after the meeting.

Representatives of Chinese companies showed special interest in direct investments in the field of energy and textile industry, it was announced.
