Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic confirmed on Tuesday that Serbia has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The letter calls on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to implement all necessary measures in order to prevent the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina from using force in northern Kosovo again. Jeremic urges "UN, EU to prevent violence" "Serbia's entire diplomatic and consular network is conducting all possible activities in order to prevent Pristina from using force," Jeremic said following his meeting with his Macedonian counterpart Nikola Poposki, and added that the letter addressed to Ban Ki-moon represents one of the forms of such diplomatic struggle. In the letter, we asked Ban Ki-moon to do all he can so that the council would carry out all necessary measures and thus prevent the situation like the one seen in July from happening again, the minister said. Jeremic noted that the council and international missions in Kosovo acting in keeping with UNSC Resolution 1244, that is, KFOR and EULEX, bear the responsibility for preserving peace and stability in the territory of the province. As he underscored, "if stability is brought into jeopardy and there are human victims, the responsibility will fall on the shoulders of those who have the mandate to prevent this, that is, the EU and NATO". Jeremic and Poposki in Belgrade on Tuesday (Beta) "Shared vision" Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and his Macedonian counterpart Nikola Poposki stated in Belgrade on Tuesday that the two countries share the same vision of a European future for the Balkans, and announced continuation of cooperation, and also expressed hope that bilateral political relations would reach the level of the two countries' economic cooperation. We share the same vision (that of Western Balkans in the EU) and our strategic interests coincide, Jeremic told a news conference following his meeting with Poposki, noted that Serbia and Macedonia would continue cooperating closely. There is no dilemma as to the fact that there are more things that connect us than those that separate us, Jeremicstated and added that there are still some open issues and certain problems which should be solved by a direct and open approach, as befits friends and neighbors. Poposki assessed that when it comes to bilateral relations, there are areas where progress can still be made, but there are also fields where cooperation is excellent. He expressed belief that it would be a great success if the governments of Serbia and Macedonia brought their political ties to the level of their economic relations. Speaking about further strengthening of cooperation, Poposki expressed belief that the two countries need to make use of the impulse of regional cooperation, especially now that Serbia is chairing the Process of Cooperation in Southeast Europe and Central European Initiative. The two countries have the same goal, that is, to become a part of the European family, and this vision is clear - to see a free, democratic Balkans without borders, the Macedonian minister said and added that in such Balkans, all citizens would be able to identify with priorities that take precedence on the European scene as well. Jeremic stated that the two countries have finalized the draft agreement on cooperation in terms of the European integration process, and expressed expectation that a formal framework of the cooperation would be adopted after certain adjustments have been made. Poposki is staying in Serbia within the framework of his tour of regional countries, during which he already visited Bulgaria and Croatia.
